#19 – Back on the Horse – Recorded 1-12-07

Lina and RichieSo in between all this counting down, we recorded another episode, which covered a lot of ground, despite general sleepiness on my part. In addition to our regular lineup (30 Rock, Scrubs, How I Met Your Mother, The Class, Friday Night Lights and Top Chef), we also welcomed back, sort of, Brothers & Sisters and House. And we’re still watching Dirt, The Knights of Prosperity and In Case of Emergency, though I hope for not much longer. Finally, Shooting Sizemore and The Apprentice premiered and at the least elicited strong reactions from us.

  1. Wow. The Class Gets Its Picture Taken. I really never thought this day would come. And I certainly couldn’t have imagined I’d be okay with it.

  2. I do have a vague sort of methodology for picking, but all I can really say is it felt like it was their time.

  3. Is it too late to nominate shows for the podcast? I’d recommend “Iron Chef America” (one of the few shows on my list that neither of you watch).

It’s good to see that Darwin likes “Entourage” — for a while there I was convinced that our tastes do not overlap at all. And he is still horribly, horribly wrong about “How I Met Your Mother”!

  4. I don’t think it’s too late. I don’t know exactly when it airs, but I think Darwin might already watch it. We’ll discuss!

  5. In the first episode, I spoke at length about the Rachel Ray vs. Giada DeLaurentis Cranberry Battle. I then cut it out, but you wouldn’t have been able to hear it anyway. But basically, I don’t often watch Iron Chef America. That guy from Brotherhood Of The Wolf is a poor substitute for Chairman Kaga and there’s no Ota. Alton Brown is pretty good, but it’s just not the same. Seems like they half want to make an exciting cooking battle show and half want to manufacture the ridiculousness that attracted so many people to the real version, which never works. You can’t purposely recreate that sort of thing. But once in awhile, like in the case of Ray v. DeLaurentis, there’s a match up I’ll have to watch.
